Where’s the Figures?

Yesterday Hu Jintao, the President of China, gave a speech to the UN General Assembly on Climate Change. While Hu Jintao's speech is being widely hailed, and rightly so, the speech held no specifics. Unlike the Speech by Japan's Prime Minister, Yukio Hatoyama, which pledged Japan to a 25% cut in emissions. Does this mean that China is not planning on lowering its emissions? The speech yesterday only committed China to devolving green technologies. While this is only one way we can tackle this challenge cuts must be implemented across the board!

China has an important role in the upcoming talks in Copenhagen in December. It can use its influence within the G77 to push for a deal. China can also take the moral high ground to get the US on board. Many US Republican politicians are opposed to a deal unless China is involved and that they make cuts.

I was disappointed that Jintao did not signal any move towards cuts. Can China be convinced that cuts are necessary? It is only then we can hope for an effective outcome from the talks.

Nice post. Yet I cannot find the connection between the video and your message. Could you elaborate on that?

Stephen Spillane on 23rd September 2009:

The video is about something being missing or lacking. For the video its Beef. In relation to Jintao’s speech its specifics on cuts if any!

So wheres the Beef became wheres the figures!

My mind works in strange ways!

Agree – and same goes for Obama…. someone must have witched the coffee to decaf at yesterday’s UN summit!

We heard a lot of urgency in the words of world leaders, but poetic words won’t bring us to a fair deal in Copenhagen.
