The Future Belongs to All of Us!

I wanted to write an article about the habit of people give to the children the responsibility of the future. I have always heard things like: “you are the future”, “the future belongs to you”, etc, etc… yes, that is totally right. But don’t you think the future belongs to all of us: children, adults, women and men? It depends on what we do now… thus; it means do whatever is necessary now, not leaving it to children when the problem becomes worse.

Of course, an environmental education is necessary. We must teach to our kids how important the environmental conservation is. Moreover, it is the family the best examples for them, which means it is not enough to say, we need to set a good example.

I could not write it properly, but I did it anyway because I wanted to show you the video above. You might have seen it already. I love it! It says what I think in relation to our responsibility. Enjoy it!

this is a very valid point, and a great video. thanks for sharing that.

Kevin Rennie on 31st October 2010:

Agree with your sentiments.

However, when the COP15 opening video screened at Copenhagen it received a lot of criticism for exploiting children and appealing to emotions.

This Greenpeace video has received similar negative responses of Youtube.

Alonso Lopez on 31st October 2010:

Wow, this is a really interesting and intelligent video. I would love too watch it at TV instead all commercial stuff.

Diêgo Lôbo on 31st October 2010:

Hi Keving,

Yes, I heard about that. But I desagree. You know what is to exploite children for me? Using them for stupid toys ads, sweets and candies ads, and plenty of others like those. Companies spend a lot of money on it.
So, using emotions to a good thing… well, it is nothing comparing to those, you see my point?!

Kevin Rennie on 31st October 2010:

I probably disagree with the criticisms too. Provided these are the real voices of children and not adult words and ideas.

Using public relations and advertising techniques has some pitfalls. It is easy to sidetracked by the opponents of climate action.

One more thing: I trust it. I used the COP 15 opening video on my article: “Who Should Pay the Bill?” (http://climatechange.thinkaboutit.eu/think4/post/who_should_pay_the_bill/)

Kevin Rennie on 31st October 2010:

Like your website ‘E esse tal Meio Ambiente’. Brazil certainly has a vibrant blogosphere.

Diêgo Lôbo on 31st October 2010:

Thanks Kevin.
In fact, we just started. We have too much to do yet.
The blogosphere in Brazil is vibrant, but regarding the enviroment issues it is still incipient. But I do believe in its improvement as people become more aware.
Even dont be a winner, I feel like discussing those issues or even having some project or article together with those brilhant authors here.

Kevin Rennie on 31st October 2010:

Global Voices is a good place to discuss issues. The latest story from Brazil is Brazil: Research and Advances in Renewable Energy Sources It’s in Portuguese as well as English.

Diêgo Lôbo on 31st October 2010:

Yes, GV is a great case of blogging.
In fact, one of our authors writes for GV as well: Diego Casaes.

Marco Polo Espinosa on 31st October 2010:

Very interesting video. All adults should be aware of it!

Tiago Andrade on 31st October 2010:

I love this video..
Very interesting too.
Congratulations for your point and ideas..

Rahul Acharya on 31st October 2010:

Very true Diego! Future is responsibility of all generations. if you check history and impacts to nature is because past did not do a good job to think of future.

Its mostly the past and the present, who needs to pave the way for the future to be fruitful.

Great article man! Thanks for bringing up this topic. Keep it up…

Nice video: short and with a message that echoes in our minds. Anyway, it’s so selfish to think that Global Warming and its bigger consequences will take place in a matter of decades. That’s not the inheritance I want to leave for the next generations. That’s not what I want to be proud of.

Verônica Ribeiro on 31st October 2010:

Environmental education needs more attention than it actually is recieving now. But his is not possible in flash like Geinie does, it can be achieven only with the efforts such as proper education and awareness spread accorss all every single part of society. If this doesnot happen the world would be super polluted place with all different kinds of pollutuions.
Nature will lose its balance and our earth will be a total caios.

I feel it very imporatant to spread the word of awareness now for better furture of world…which means better future and great place for human life

Carlos Diloné on 31st October 2010:

Great video, we should all contribute to preserve what we have today and we also need to see the impact of global warming nowadays as not only affecting the future of this kids but the present of all of us.

Andres Lara on 31st October 2010:

The education that we give to our kids and new generations is fundamental key to change the world environmental situation. If we adults don’t do our part, by educating the new generations, we as well had failed. The responsibility of the future is more ours than theirs.
