Some numbers from Latvia!
Published 10th December 2009 - 2 comments - 744 views -
The majority of Latvians (71%) think that government should focus on national economical development rather then fighting against global warming.
More then half of Latvian population is concerned about global warming, but 38% do not bother about global warming.
In assessing the expectations of the Latvian government priority - rapid economic development or the prevention of global warming - Latvian residents this year, the absolute majority of cases (71%) argues for a rapid economic development.
These are numbers what I would expect from Latvia and it is true. And most important point - there is reason why we do not bother about global warming or climate change. We are more concerned about workplace and ability to live with GDP decline more then 15%.
Crashing economy, reduced salaries, ther same or rising prices. Maybe it would be time to start considering clean tech, that would make energy more cheaper.
Bottom line: Global warming and climate change is not our top concern. And as long it will stay out of our yard, it will not be.

With some exceptions, it’s exactly the same in Romania.
Same here in Italy.
Actually, let me rephrase. On a totally unscientific poll (people I know), I would say that nobody cares about climate change here.
When you have the prime minister and his associates who collude with the mafia, it’s kind of hard for the people to care about global issues.
