Our very last chance to save humanity. No. 274 in a series.

"The planet is hurtling even more rapidly than previously acknowledged to a climatic point of no return." Time, then, for some inspirational reading before the lights go out… forever. But before we depart into the Dantesque fires, let's fill the Christmas stockings one final time with something that will combust nicely when the Great Warming happens. Storms of My Grandchildren: The Truth About the Coming Climate Catastrophe and Our Last Chance to Save Humanity, a bit of a mouthful, that, is the latest book from James Hansen. According to the blurb, "Dr. James Hansen is considered the world's leading climatologist. Dr. Hansen served as Al Gore's science advisor for An Inconvenient Truth and is frequently called to testify before Congress on climate issues."

Which one of our three Th!nker colleagues will interview him at the Copenhagen Climate Conference? None, actually. Dr. Hansen is not attending on the grounds that he "we no longer can accept the greenwash of politicians and world leaders." He's devoting his time instead to planning "grassroots efforts" that will help "mobilize the masses, even through acts of civil resistance, for the sake of our children and their children." Resistance! This is indeed a selfless act for it suggests that Dr. Hansen may soon find himself at odds with the law and having to forfeit some of the creature comforts brought about by the $250,000 Heinz Award he won in 2001 and the $1 million Dan David Prize he co-shared in 2007. But with the planet "hurtling even more rapidly than previously acknowledged to a climatic point of no return", everyone will have to make sacrifices.

By the way, it is a fortunate co-incidence, no doubt, that Bloomsbury, the publisher of Storms of My Grandchildren, picked a title that subliminally suggests Dreams from My Father by another very famous person.

Pefect, Eamon.

Hansen, Schneider, Mann, Briffa…  Briffa, Schneider, Hansen… Mann, Hansen, Mann, Schneider

Why is the whole warming IPCC “science” performed in circles by the same small-closed group of a few old-friends for 30 years?

Is it some exclusive club? How much dost the membership costs?

Aren’t there thousands of geologists and climatologists worldwide?

Vitezslav Kremlik on 27th November 2009:

After reading this Eamon’s post it must be clear to you, that Hansen is not an unbiased objective scientists. Sine ira et studio.

He is just a doomsday-sect moron just like David Koresh. Remember Waco?
