New American Dream (Great American Hope Part 2)

Published 21st October 2009 - 1 comments - 928 views -

It would appear that I'm far from the only one hopeful about the USA's prospects for meeting the climate change challenge, depsite what appears to be a dismal showing at Copenhagen. Another person who's hopeful is Jay Inslee, a Congressman and one of America's foremost alternative energy heroes. In this Grist article he talks about 3 people who give him hope, using Obama's basketball skills allegorically to persuade us that while his current Copenhagen comitment is tiny, his basketball crossover is unexpected but well planned and there is ample chance that we'll see a similar move as December approaches... we'll have to wait and see about that.

On the other side of Climate Change activism is Bob Ferris, the Executive Director of New American Dream who's campaigning to bring America's quality of life in line with a sustainable future. I got to sit down with Bob outside the recent DC Green Festival and have a nice, wide-ranging conversation. We discussed the work New American Dream does, it's ambition and core ideas, Sarkozy's recenty commissioned, Stiglitz-led economic report and Bob's ideas of just consumption. Please enjoy the interview below broken into two parts.

note: the first part of this piece is here, and this the last of my Green Festival series, other parts here
