Great synergy between today’s Onion and 1956 science vinyl

The Onion - the satirical website above them all - is usually funny not because it's true but because it's wrong in the exact same stupid way real life news are often stupid. Like in today's news section: Report: Global Warming Issue From 2 Or 3 Years Ago May Still Be Problem.

November 10, 2010 | ISSUE 46•45

WASHINGTON—According to a report released this week by the Center for Global Development, climate change, the popular mid-2000s issue that raised awareness of the fact that the earth's continuous rise in temperature will have catastrophic ecological effects, has apparently not been resolved, and may still be a problem.

[...]

"I was a bit surprised by our findings, because I, along with the rest of my colleagues, thought that the process of fixing climate change ended soon after [2007 rock concert] Live Earth," CGD assistant director George Oliver told reporters. "But it turns out that the things needed to stop it, like substantive energy legislation, worldwide cooperation to reduce carbon emissions, and a massive cultural shift toward sustainable living actually didn't happen at all."

"We kind of just assumed that the threat of total annihilation spurred everyone into action back in '07 and that everything got better," Oliver added.

Read the whole thing. I'm sure Denmark is little better or worse in respect to our media being increasingly populated by celebrity journalists interviewing each other about issues none of them really know about - and yes, I have seen such a journalist crack ironic comments at climate change apparently not being such a big problem after COP15.

It's mildly entertaining to correct people that 1) climate change is an old theory and 2) it's still an urgent problem. And here is some fresh ammo - just three days ago greenman3610 put up Climate Science 1956: A Blast from the Past at his YouTube channel:

Many climate deniers still seem to think global warming was invented by Al Gore, in 2006. As this recently uncovered recording from 1956 shows, the outlines of climate change science have been clear for many decades.

Synergy: the working together of two things to produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects.

Synergy indeed :-D
