DOC EST

Our modern world is defined by obsessions, material desires and consumption that end up in excessive waste. The consequnces of our life choices are more and more ovbious and will soon become impossible to ignore. At its 3rd edition, DOC EST aims to be the alarm signal that wakes up our consciousness, the voice in our heads that must say STOP before it's going to be too late.
As a celebration of the documentary film, this year's edition is even more important because it's focused on the environment. From global warming, to the scarcity of natural resources, from genetically modified crops to local environmental troubles (to be detailed in a different article), DOC EST is the heart of ecology, debates and sustainable thinking. I've been to the opening and brought you the first two screened documentaries.
Both are in German, but as at least several of you know the language, I embedded one in full version and the trailer of the second one for your convenience here. Do you have pocorn ready?
Lights,
Camera,
Action!
1. Bis zum letzen Tropfen - Vom Ende des Ols (Till the Last Drop - the end of Oil) by Jurgen Webberman and Matthias Sdun discusses Peak Oil. Seen as the most important resource of our times, the one that keeps all industries moving, the one that preserves the mobility of humanity, oil deposits are reaching their inferior limits. What are the alternatives? Take a look at the documentary.
2. Energie von morgen - Unter Strom (Under pressure) by Carsten Rau and Hauke Wendler also deals with resources. Coal factories are heavy and no longer reliable. What does this mean for German energy sources? Are there any alternatives for the future? Is wind energy a reliable option or will all the German lights go off tomorrow? What does the nation think about it? Made in 2008, this documenary is an objective and palpable representation of a developed nation (Germany) who's already started to adapt to climate changes.
The translation of the names between the brackets are based on the Romanian subtitles, so if any German native or good speaker has a different alternative, do feel free to share it.
