A positive action in the fight agaist enviromental destruction

On 20 November 2009, the Guardian reported that Prince Charles has announced a global emergency funding scheme in order to reduce the destruction of tropical rainforests over the next five years. The plan wants the developed countries to pay countries that own rainforests such as Brazil in order the latter to reduce deforestation. The ambition is 25% reduction in annual deforestation by 2015. The total cost is estimated from £13.5bn to £22bn, with the money initially to come from the governments of the developed countries, with the US pledging £165 million. The plan sounds excellent in the fight against deforestation and in extension to climate change. However, remains to be seen how committed are the developed countries or it is just another promotional trick from western governments.

Our point seems valid from the moment that the effects from climate change are becoming more and more apparent. For instance, according to a BBC post on 22 November 2009, east Antarctica, which it was considered stable, is loosing ice with a pace of 57 billion tonnes. Thus, actions such as the one by Prince Charles are receiving special importance since they can be a starting point for similar actions that might give a new boost in the fight against climate change.

Thank you for all your posts.
They are very good and useful.
For deforestation: we must look at about China: this country buy all forests because they have no more now.
Remind you The Tibet was shaved by the Chinese.
