Having worked in ZSW (Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung), I gained international exposure to the renewable energy market in Germany. I have also done several Renewable energy courses on ‘Energy Science and technology’ at the Universität Ulm. I got more insight about Solar and solar thermal systems after having attended the International summer University in Switzerland. Now, working with the Government of India, I have a good knowledge of the international market in renewable energy. I travelled all around Rural India for two months as a part of the Grassroutes 2010 fellowship. This fellowship allows Indian youth to travel in villages to create awareness among young people about the problems faced by the people living in villages. My main motive in taking this trip was to talk to people about energy issues they were facing. There, I saw houses with solar energy and I learnt that it is a very wrong notion many have that the poor cannot afford and maintain technology and that one cannot run a company while trying to meet social objectives.
