Sarfraz Ali is a journalist and human rights activist. He did his MA in Mass Communication from Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan, in (2001). He earned his Diploma in International Practical Print Journalism from Thomson Foundation Cardiff, United Kingdom, in (2008). He started his career as a journalist in (2001). He got his first career appointment in Urdu daily ‘Jang’. Later, he worked for two years for Urdu daily ‘Khabrain’ as well. At present, he is working Daily ‘The Nation’ as an Assistant News-Editor/Reporter. Besides, he is also working for a local news agency namely Pakistan Press international (PPI), as a reporter. He has been a passionate and ardent supporter of change in the social and political milieu of Pakistan. Highlighting the misery of marginalized and voiceless elements of the society, promoting peace and supporting various issues of human concern have been the major areas of Sarfraz’s contributions whil e working for a number of national and local dailies and media organisations. As a journalist he has been interested in peace and security particularly in the context of South Asia - press freedom, globalization, environmental issues, human rights and investigative stories. Sarfraz had also been attending a number of international courses, seminars, workshops and conferences held in India, UAE and Italy where he presented himself as a professional journalist, social mobiliser and also highlighted violations of human rights and many other issues of human interest. He has been threatened many a times by extremist outfits for ‘collaborating’ with international human rights groups and media persons. His role as a journalist and social worker after the catastrophic earthquake in 2005 was widely appreciated and acknowledged by different organisations, groups and agencies at local and international level.
Sarfraz has also been working as media director voluntarily for ‘Peace For Peace’, an NGO working for the promotion of journalists belonging to most deprived areas of Pakistan through education and training. This organisation also works for human rights and environmental issues.
