Waste inspiration for Christmas. The French Connection.

Christmas in Paris. Romance, beauty, chansons, couples in love, bright lights, cacao aroma.

No diamonds. Just bottles. Shiny ones. Actually trees. Maybe both.

656 feet of a shopping street in the heart of the French capital is covered with rubbish. 5000 recycled plastic bottles turned into Christmas lights & trees and save the Green day! The whole lighting uses up so much energy as a single home kitchen thermos...

It is great how the author of this strange installation was able to mix positive ideals represented by art and advices to his fellow-citizens. After all, Christmas has always been green, this is only just a new point of seeing things. You pass by and Th!nk about it.

Nothing goes lost, just like the energy, which only transforms its form. We must just find the appropriate way to direct this flow.

So, drink more on your Christmas party and you will be able to recycle more.

Thanks to Reuters.

The video no longer works, but the ‘rubbish for Christmas’ concept sounds cool & fun while also going the sustainable way.

It works. Read what is written - you need to click to the video screen and it will open in the original Reuters` Youtube profile. They don`t want to let us watch it outside their profile. And I don`t want to download it unlegal:) So, cool idea, and in comparance to Sofia Christmas lightings - cheaper and however, NEW.

Thanks, I went on youtube and saw it.
I like the Copenhagen Christmas tree idea more, because it requires more people to work on lighting it, hence more interactivity and cycling is healthy.

But the French project is cool, too.
Do you have any idea how long do they plan to keep the decorations in Paris? January? February?

  • Lucy Setian on 05th December 2009:

It will last until 10 January 2010

Thank you Lucy, I sent this article to a friend of mine who gets there on the 8th of January, I hope she comes back with lots of cool pics. raspberry

smile)) Superb! I tried to picture something eco in Berlin - I didn`t find any…

  • Aija Vanaga on 05th December 2009:

Ahh .. Now you made me think about sustainable and self made presents with soem eco though ..

  • Lucy Setian on 05th December 2009:

Great idea, really. Maybe we can share thoughts about such concrete presents? Like giving a little tree as a gift, for example. Or a book about the marine life. Or creating such lamp for your beloved one by recycled coca cola bottle:)
