Sustainable Copenhagen. A Visual FollowUp
Remember Copenhagen was the first in the top of European Green Cities Index? The result is however pretty interesting because Copenhagen didn't score highest at any of the criteria, but reached the top after calculating the average result.
I can imagine why. Beside the incredible bike lanes that go all around the city and make it so easy for someone to move around, the off shore wind park and all the other categories that are not immediately observable, local advertising also focuses on sustainability, sending a message that people living in the city as much as the ones coming to the city for COP15 should rely on green technologies and sustainable development. Otherwise, the banners & bilboards would have simply used a different trigger to grab attention.
I haven't been able to visit the whole city (believe it or not I still have to see the mermaid, the harbor area and Christiania) but everywhere I went (including inside the means of transport and the airport) I took pics of some of the advertisements, so you can make an idea about sustainability and the many directions and industries it spreads.

And there were many more.
You all know the disastrous result of COP15. But I think that Copenhagen (in fact the whole Denmark and the rest of the Scandinavian countries) will not feel the effects of climate change, at least not as much as the islands like Maldives or the African continent. They may lose some of the snow in the years to come, but the continuous sustainable, carbon free development has already been partly implemented in the area and their future is pretty much safe.
So maybe it's time to start doing the same in our own countries. Let's analyse our natural landscape and the means in which we can make use of it to grow sustainably without finishing our fossil fuels, but by supporting renewable resources. It is possible and Copenhagen stands for that.

I do not understand why in Copenhagen the new energies were not the top topic of the negotiations.
It would be better!
Paul, it’s not that easy.
New energies are part of the means used to develop sustainably, COP15 was supposed to find a solution for the big picture - keeping temperatures stable and not allowing them to go up with more than 1.5 degrees, so islands like Maldives don’t disappear.
The means exist, but they’re not enough if only a couple of countries adhere and implement them.
I think you cannot forget that you have a brain.
If you look at how it works you understand that you must find a positive message.
The reduction message is impossible!
I think you cannot forget that you have a brain.
With all due respect, I don’t the utility of this comment.
Sorry, I meant: I don’t see how that comment helps in any way the discussion.
Thanks for pictures!
A brief update on what media says about climatechange in southern scandinavia…
I read today that Malmoe expects the sea level 1-2 meters within 100 years due to climate change, something that would be very problemati. I guess the little mermaid would also go under the water then, and I can imagine it will be also a problem for Kastrup airport.
But in general south scandinavian farmers who don’t live by the sea look forward to more efficient agriculture, and new products, such as grapes for wine.
So we are expecting changes from climate change, but they will maybe not be so lethal as elsewhere on the globe.
Wow great collection of pictures! During my walks through Copenhagen I was also thinking that someone should document that. Couldn’t have been done better!
@ Federico
If you do not understand you can try a meeting (séance en français) of ericsonian hypnosis and there you will understand that any transformation passes by the unconscious one.
The unconscious one receives durably only the positive messages.
Barack Obama who knows this question does not make an error on this point.
He is very strong as regards secret services and the work of the secret services consists in modifying the feelings of crowd.
If you want that the people change behaviors it is necessary to pass some by there.
Copenhagen was a terrible error on this topic!
@Paul - I don’t understand what you mean.
@Daniel - You obviously know more than I do about what’s going on there. I wish I knew Danish only to understand the V2 news/talk shows constantly updating from Bella Center.
And life as we know it will probably change everywhere in the world. But I think the mentality & what Scandinavia has already been doing in terms of sustainability turns future in something more than just fight for survival.
@David - Thank you! There were so many. I couldn’t take pics of the ads above the check-in gates in terminal 2 in the airport for ex. Those were also interesting. Some of the images here are cropped to feature ads only, if you want any of them, let me know.
@ Adela:
If I read again what you said, you are right perhaps.
I badly support the negative images and I cannot any more see them.
