Saint Andrew’s Day

help the virtual wheat grow

Someone, however, used the Saint Andrew's celebration as a reason to promote sustainability and determine others to do the same.

Tara lui Andrei is a platform (part of the CSR campaign developed by one of the oil companies here) which allows an unlimited number of people to interact, communicate, inform and change the world we live in, for the better. It's already inhabited by over 3,800 "cyber citizens" that due to their sustainable actions, gathered more than 5,700 real trees so far, trees to be planted in spring by the oil company together with volunteers from the platform.

Today, messengers from Tara lui Andrei (Andrew's Country) promote change and ask people in all the corners of our country to throw away one unsustainable, bad habit and replace it with a new, healthy one. Whoever wants to join the campaign can add his/her own personal message on De azi imi pasa (From today on, I care) website.

The goal is to educate and encourage as many people as possible to adopt environmentally responsible behavior. "From today on, no more garbage thrown in the street" or "From today on, I will no longer say that I will do something, I will actually do it." are just two of the commitments posted by the website's visitors. The more responsible behaviors, the quicker the wheat is going to grow.

From today on, I will walk more and give up car drives on short distances. How about you?

I think I am doing that almost all the time, or at least I try to use public transportation. Here the most of the kids are so fat because of all the junk fast food they eat and the fact that they do not walk and don`t train any sport, that this is another important reason to change something in human`s lifestyle from a young age.

Same with kids here. Junk food & lack of sport is one big problem the young generations face.

On a sustainable matter, I have problems using public transportation because of the smell. But that’s another discussion.

I drive very little (to none) myself, but there’s always someone to pick me up and drive me where I need to go. I’ve recalculated my co2 footprint last week & the car is the only booster. So more walk, less car.

Each Saturday so far have been a day - I give up smile So far its meat, McDonalds, Coca ..

  • Adela on 01st December 2009:

Aija, that’s great. I haven’t drunk Coca Cola in years either.

And I think anyone can start with anything, as little as it may first sound.

For example, another commitment (not 100% related to sustainable development, though) I read on the platform was - From today on, I will be calmer.
