Planet First, People First
With frustrating moments, with a leaked Danish text threatening to ruin the fragile negotiations' balance, with enthusiastic citizen activities (not to miss David's reports from the youth events, nor Benno's cover of the first day at Klimaforum), with hopes raised by EU pledging the most wanted 30% CO2 cuts and a first official 6 page draft on climate change on the tables (stating that emissions should be halved worldwide by 2050 compared to 1990 levels, also suggesting 80 % and 95 % reductions by that year as possible alternative options, it's been a tough first week.
With COP15 reaching half time of negotiations tomorrow, there's a lot to ponder on.
December 12 is a big day for the whole world.
On one hand, because of the worldwide known
Sign a Real Deal – Global Day of Action
initiated by TckTckTck and partners like Avaaz, Greenpeace, Oxfam, 350, WWF plus many others that will inspire and lead thousands of people as they gather in countless cities all over the world (map here) - including 22 cities in Romania to make a one voice statement: The Worlds Wants a Real Deal.
Gathered in strategic and important locations for the local communities, people will light candles of hope to stand in solemn solidarity with the citizens of the nations whose very survival is threatened by the climate crisis.
These nations are calling for a “survival pact,” for commitments by the developed world to cut emissions enough to get the atmospheric concentration of CO2 back to 350.
But this is one event most of you know (some of you take part or even organize the local actions)
On the other hand, there is a second action - just as important, but focused locally - a mass peaceful demonstration in Copenhagen.

Planet First – People First.
A broad based, family friendly demonstration, it is supported by 400+ orgs in 55+ countries.
Several giant sails of climate messages will be displayed at Parliament Square, carried to Bella Center by the march, and delivered to Yvo de Boer.
Schedule:
- 1:00-2:00 pm Assembly event at Christiansborg Slotsplads (Parliament Square). Speakers include Kumi Naidoo.
- 2:00-4:30 pm March from Christiansborg Slotsplads to Bella Center (Site of UN Climate Conference)
- 4:30-6:30 pm Assembly event at Bella Center with DJs Mike Sheridan & 100% Isis. Candlelight vigil. Speakers include Mary Robinson.
You can read more about it on the official site 12 dec 09.
As the planet can't speak our language, it's up to you to digest and decide.
How do you feel so far? What do you think it's been achieved (if anything) and what do you expect for next week?

As always, very clear and precise, thanks for the excellent post.
I’ve read there were 100k persons marching yesterday. It’s incredible how people stand and stick together to prove a point.
Yeah, and you just need 30 hot-heads to ruin it all and steal the scene in the media.
Thanks for info .. How that all went?
Aija, you can see photos & videos from vigils all around the world here. Pick a country to start.
