Living in a winter wonderland
Florida's oranges are frozen. Oh my!
Snow paralyses central Europe!
And so many people are dead because of the cold weather in many countries. Everything is a big mess.
Now that we have seen again these news about Western Europe, and even Florida and Mexico being hit by heavy snow and all the problems they have had with it, I really have to ask, who's interested in Finland being hit by heavy snow every winter and our winters go on for 6 months each year!!

OK, maybe we know what to do and prepare ourselves for the winter, but still, we struggle with these problems every year! And here it's a lot more colder when it really gets cold in here, I guess you can't even imagine what it's like.
For some countries it's a surprise when it happens once in 30 years, but for us it's something we have to cope with every year. And I'm not saying I don't like our winters, they can be beautiful and nice, but there are many things that we really have to take care of because of the climate. And not all of these things are nice, not at all. You can't even be sure if your car is going to get started or not.
And it's even difficult for our pets, my dogs have had difficulties to go for walks when it's just too cold for their paws. If it would be just a couple of days, no problem, but when it's 2 months or more, then I would say it's a little bit too much.

We have to build the houses in a way that they will be warm enough even when we have minus 30 degrees. Now it's been almost two months of very cold weather here in Finland, something from -10 to -30, and still nobody says anything about it, all we can read in the news is the problems that they have in Southern Europe with the snow coming...I find this hilarious.
And what is the most hilarious thing, for us the cold and the winds and the snow, this is no news to us. For us it's a natural thing. Then maybe I should feel bad for the people who are not used to this kind of weather...
Almost ten years ago, when I was in France and in December it was quite cold there, they just couldn't understand why I was cold, because I came from a really cold country. But we could never live here if we had the infrastructure that they have. Just imagine how much all this costs to our country?
who remembers this for example in the European Union, when it comes to the different kinds of support and financial aid? Nobody.
The reality in our country is so different than in most of other European countries.

Even if we have heating systems in our cars, it's not always sure if the car is going to get started because of the really cold weather. On saturday I had a problem with that. And this cold weather can last for several weeks here. It really is something that affects everything in here: the use of energy, transportation, agriculture, our industries and so on. Who is helping us with these things when we struggle with it every year?

Life is not easy in this cold country of ours. I'm not saying I hope it changed but I just wish that, for example, in the EU we got a little bit more of understanding in this climate issue. Now I just feel that nobody's, even the finnish representatives are not talking about this openly. Somehow they're frozen.

Wait… it gets warmer in the summer and colder in the winter???
Mind = blown
Well in Tampere it has been much more colder than in two years. In Kuopio, where I come from winters are usually very cold but in Tampere, not this cold normally. So even inside Finland there is regional variation. We had to wait until December to get snow and then it got very cold. Some -10 degrees would be nice but when it goes something like -20 to -40 then I really hate it in the long run.
-25 and very harsh wind. I’m going to move to Spain…
In Helsinki there has been as much snow as now in the 80’s. So this winter seems to be really exeptional even in Finland, even though this amount of snow is not exeptional in other parts of Finland. The capital suffers from the same thing now as everybody else every year
It seems that the cars can’t drive in the center of the city and there are many other problems that are due to the amount of snow. In Tampere, it’s not the first time though. Every winter we have problems, it seems that the snow surprises even us every time
even though we should be used to it.

Hi Muusa
I read this post back in december I remember. It was really weird to read it, as Bulgaria had 20 degrees celsius back then.
I guess most of what you write go for (north) Sweden as well, even if Finland might be more extreme. Right now I am living in the south, close to Denmark, and it is almost ridiculous to see how they struggle with the snow here, as if it was something new
Actually this year is the first in 20 years that shows normal Swedish winter temperatures. In case you want to see some real snow chaos, take a look at these pictures from 1929.
