Charles Brock's (almost) 60 second presentation at this year's AIGA's Make/Think conference. Being a book designer, Charles has an (*ahem) unique perspective on the Kindle. To clarify, nothing of value was destroyed in the making of this film.

I saw this video posted by a friend of mine, author in Az Cheta - the biggest literature media in Bulgaria. She meant there, that the ebooks have many enemies around the world. Most of them are connected with the evolution of our brains - the books. Covers, Design, Photos, Writing, Marketing. A whole new era in the prose and poetry is comin
g to town. We`ll see that.
g to town. We`ll see that. Then I thought, ok, why not showing it here, when it actually means something much far away from. It is connected with the post of Federico about are we able to quit reading traditional looking books. Personally I study all of my things on the computer, but when it is possible, I prefer normal paperbooks. Does this make me a bad person? What is efficiency of electronic books, when they are not accepted for example in countries like mine?
There is also a model of an e-book called Eco Reader. Here what they write about it: "The ECO Reader is as small and as light as a paperback but without the paper. Read for days without recharging. Take it anywhere and pick up where you left off. It's just like paper and easy on your eyes."
What is an ebook according to CostaRicaEBooks.com?
An e-book (short for electronic book, also written eBook and ebook) is the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book.

We use the most popular and compatible digital file format available: PDF. We use PDF file format because it is the most standard format usable by just about any computer operating systems. It doesn't matter if you're on a Windows PC or on a Mac, all you need is a copy of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read our ebooks.
You can download your ebook instantly after placing your order. That means you don't have wait for shipping. You can order at 2:00 AM on a Saturday and be reading your book by 2:05 AM- if it takes that long!
Another added benefit of ebooks is the cost. Since we don't incur costly printing, storage, shipping, and other charges that come along with a printed book we can pass along those savings to you.

What`s the eco about it according to them again?!
You might have noticed the above image popping up all over our website and were wondering what the heck this is all about.
Well the leaf frog
like the one above is found in the forest's of Costa Rica. It helps convey that being eco-friendly is not only good for humans but for creatures like that frog in the rain forest.
Ebooks truly are eco-friendly. By downloading your ebook in digital format, there is no paper waste (don't worry, you can still easily print out the ebook if you prefer). But for the majority of folks ordering our ebooks they Will keep the digital copy on their computer where they can enjoy reading it at their convenience knowing they've saved some trees for our little frog friend- making our planet a little more healthier.

Exactly this parentheses make me wonder, do they seriosly think on being ecological? At least they could pass this printing thought deep inside them, when they sell an eco product. And also why shall we spend energy as electricity from my computer and throw away batteries, or downloading new ebooks for whatever that time it is, when we waste energy ressources again? Where is the balance of priorities? Isn`t it the same to cut a tree for a paper issue?

Great post
I think it is a very positive choice that the eco-reader chooses to work with PDF, that anyone can use, and doesn’t tie you to a specific format.
This system that different products are available in different countries (even within the EU!) is horrific… this being said, the first time I saw an iPhone was in Moldova, and the fist time I saw a Kindle was in Bulgaria
hah…the e-books are not widely spread around, and if I am honest in Germany, Denmark, Armenia, Austria, Spain, Italy, Greece and etc. I have seen only people reading normal paper books. It is positive technology, but it has its issues. I don`t think it will replace soon the normal books. Though there are many free e-books in internet and none free books in the real world - at least you need card for the library
I love the smell of classic paper and I can’t read very long pdf formats on my computer, because my eyes begin to hurt and I start seeing stars.
So in my case, the choice should be easy… to buy or print everything. On the other hand, it would totally suck for the environment. And this is where Kindle comes in handy - because it treats your eyes just like a classic paper & it’s based on natural light to work.
I don’t think it will disappear at all. On the contrary, we already have the 2nd generation of Kindles which are bigger, better and more user friendly. And no book designer can make them go away.
HOLA FRM VENEZUELA ., good job..¡¡¡ love green ¡¡¡¡ congra…
@Adela I totally understand you. I`m the same, though I rarely print, because I don`t have where to put all of that paper…
They won`t disappear in the next 20 years. You can follow the tendency by watching the media varieties. From print to online
@Carmen Thanks! I love red, but I am into green in front of my eyes
I had missed this post earlier. Interesting that you guys have brought this up.
I am sure people will eventually get used to e books and they will become more efficient and more eco friendly than they already are.
Damn! I just love the good old books!
Hemant…guess who got the latest Dan Brown before the official market opening:)))))))) I know what you mean.
