Just a piece of paper…

Published 15th November 2009 - 5 comments - 378 views -

We, who are used to use paper every day, don’t always notice that a piece of paper can be a luxury to someone else.

Any European uses easily over 200 kilos of paper in a year. (This man says that the amount is even 300 kilos)

Finland is one of the most important European countries when it comes to producing paper.

Somehow we take the paper for granted, and don’t even realize the value of all this paper. Every day we get a lot of publicity printed on many papers and what do we do? Throw it away of course. Nowadays we already have the recycling system, so that the paper will be recycled, but many times, you through a piece of paper in the bin with other waste and don’t even think about it, do you?

There are people in some countries who haven’t ever read a newspaper, and who don’t have any toilet paper. In some other countries, there's a debate now about the future of newspapers, because the industry is going down.

In some parts of the world the forests are being cut illegally, which is a bad thing for the animals, for the climate and for the country, even for our planet.

We should remember, when we read a magazine, or when we through away a piece of paper, that the paper mill-industry is one of the most polluting industries and it uses more energy than most other industries.

I think in European Union it would be important to control where the wood comes from that we buy, and in what kind of conditions it has been cut. And maybe we should start thinking if we really need all this paper we use every day and pay attention on recycling the paper even more.

Somehow you just ask yourself, does it really matter where I put this particular piece of paper?

True. This is one of the most important problems in my opinion. Maybe you`ll appreciate this post on the topic: http://climatechange.thinkaboutit.eu/think2/post/sos_1_3_of_bulgaria_is_forest._it_disappears_with_10_m3_minute

    I appreciate it, sir…
dis is one of d less talked about matter even whn v talk abt climate change or sustainable development.
i giv every piece paper, yes, even smaller one, for recycling. I collect for all of dem, e.g., receipts frm newspaper, shops/bank ATMs, old study notes, railway/bus tickets, old unnecessary bills frm electricity/phone company, recharge vouchers, absolutely nything made of paper!
I hav almost changed mode of all of my registration/account/other notifications to be sent by institutes, banks, etc frm paper to online notifications.(& U know wat, frm MS excel & all other devices, u can analyse reports, kp track & control of all these accounts, too! jst other reason to make it online!)

There are other ideas too, which can b followed in day to day life. Plz share, if u kno dem.

I didn’t thought about paper in this sense before. Thanks!

Exactly we have to think how the publicity can be made.
In France the paper has disappeared in political campaigns.
    We can change!
