Hopeless in Copenhagen
I felt guilty today sitting inside the Fresh Air Center and watching the live footage of police beating up peaceful protesters trying to make a powerful statement by civil disobedience and demonstrating. Suddenly I felt I was a part of the problem and not the solution because I was not on the streets telling the powerful people what I really thought of them.
There are two days left for the conference and it is very clear that our leaders, and governments have failed us. They have failed to give the world what it has been demanding for, a just and fair agreement to save civilizations. Actually it is not all the leaders but just a few of them, the leaders from the developed countries. The leaders who are bound and blinded by corporate money and power. Leaders from developing countries have shed tears but oil is more powerful than tears.
Is there any hope for our world?
Somebody told me once that the day you realize your life is controlled by somebody else more powerful, is the day you truly turn an adult and stop hoping or dreaming. I'm afraid that day has come for me.

Wow - that’s a depressing sentiment. I wouldn’t give up hope that something will be achieved - it probably just won’t be the far-reaching and completely fair agreement that was hoped for. Realistically however, I don’t think that was ever going to be achieved because we simply haven’t given our leaders for mandate that kind of action. The vast majority are most concerned with our immediate well being and protecting our current lifestyles and as a result capital remains paramount. Politicians can’t (and won’t) scupper domestic business and they won’t give money without strings attached. That doesn’t mean progress won’t be made. And progress made now will lead to further progress in the future. It’s still important to keep advocating your opinions and maintain some hope.
In terms of the protesters - I’m not sure what they expected to occur by trying to storm the bella centre when there are world leaders inside. While it’s mostly peaceful activists there could be complete nutjobs there. There is no way police are going to let hundreds or thousands of people swarm into a conference hall. It would turn into absolute mayhem. I don’t support police hitting people, but trying to invade the hall was never going be met with support.
I spoke with my mother this evening.
A comfortable room is rented 800 Euros in Paris.
My nephew who is 35 years old and who is engineer responsible for Airbus cannot buy his apartment he pays too many taxes.
Imagine who can live easily!
We have rich person but they are very few.
For this reason I dream of new energies which change our organization and the circuits of the richness!
You can dream in wisdom.
You’re going to jump into my head for this, but I think you exaggerate a bit related to the police.
I’ll write a detailed post about what I think about them and the way they try to handle all events at COP15.
Yeah, governments do fail us. Unfortunately, Monbiot was right about at least one thing: ‘It’s a war on sheer, bloody selfishness.’
