EKO Ecobulpack is one of the famous companies in Bulgaria. It is a joint stock company, which (in their personal statement) doesn`t distribute dividends. It re-invests the profits into the establishment of sustainable separate waste collection systems. Producers and importers of packed goods, reduce their costs on product-packaging fee by participating in the ECOBULPACK system. Of course, this is their job?!

Why here, why now?

The world population reaches 7 billion, explain the EKO Ecobulpack specialists. It is a big number as the limited world resources, with which the land features are minded. The global problems more frequently reach to the uncasual world issues and until our latitudes and frequencies as well.

Yes. They got it – Huston we have a problem, but let us make it into a business. It is not a new decision, because we talk about a company, which recycles products. But the question is can you make money from cleaning? The bunch of green islands, producing energy in ecoway proves the nature of the biobus – biological business. Or in other words – to do money in a green way (better not green money, the value of $ is not that good in the crisis). However, out of the joke you can attract tourists, wishing to breathe clean air, to live healthy, to feel like they’re doing something for the environs by spending money on biorestaurants and fruit cocktail bars. All are happy, especially when you gain money with only few investments, which recompense in 4-5 years and use energy, which is free. You don’t pay for the wind, water, sun. Remember that and use it like a professional, not like an ideologist.      

It is clear that we are oversaturated with information on the changing climate, for violated universe cycles, on lack of resources, energy, water, contaminating the environment. (As someone adviced on Th!nk about it seminar – don`t use the word “catastrophe”)

All this direct affects on people`s health and on the wealth of the world, where is the next point, which we can use. Live healthier, train sports – ride a bicycle instead of car or go by foot. When I think about how fat kids become lately during their school years, I wander – is it about motion, food or something else? Maybe if there enough *clean green space, they would good about walking, playing or at least going through them. Because of the greenhouse gases, with which we flood the atmosphere, the high consumption to resources and the low energy potency, everyone of us is part of the issue.

Company strategy

Ecobulpack strategy is of national and regional magnitude. It makes central and local authorities as well as non governmental organizations sympathize to our mission, which is more on paper. That includes helping schoolchildren get introduced to the process of separate collection, recycling and environmental protection in an attractive way. If you ask how – the anwer is that every kid must have seen the funny animation bins of the company.

Systems

They include containers for separate waste collection, specialized transportation machines and sorting plants, equipped with specialized waste processing technology. For less than 4 years Ecobulpack JSC concluded contracts for establishing separate waste collection systems with 74 Bulgarian municipalities, explain from the company. Such systems exist in Sofia, in Plovdiv and in other Bulgarian municipalities. Currently approximately 1 800 000 people are being covered by Ecobulpack separate waste collection systems throughout Bulgaria. 

Door-to-door model

This model has been implemented by providing each household with specialized bins for separate collection of packaging waste. That stimulates forming stable habits in the people to collecting their waste separately.

The door-to-door model was first introduced in the region of Bankya, a small town with a population of 10 000 situated 15 km west of Sofia. The town was selected for its specific infrastructure represented mainly by detached houses, tourist and hydropathic establishments. Providing households and public institutions with individual yellow containers secure a high rate of properly separated recyclable waste. The other positive reason is that the incorrect filling and misuse is being reduced.

Sorting installations

Ecobulpack JSC invests in the construction of waste sorting installations, which actually contribute to the reduction of quantities of waste disposed at the landfills. Currently the organization has 5 working sorting facilities situated in Sofia, Sliven, Gabrovo, Ruse and Pazardjik. By the end of the year another 3 are to be completed and put into operation. The process aims to separate the recyclables (metals, glass, plastics and paper) from the non-recyclable waste, thus reducing the amount of waste that should go to landfill with up to 30 percent.

How to start getting green by EKO ?

• Pay attention where the nearest cargo containers for recycling are situated.
• Use a system for separate collecting of paper, plastic, glass and metal at home.
• Explain to your family the benefits of recycling.
• Ask for separate waste collecting system in your office.
• Ask for assistance the organization in your town, responsible for recycling.
• Don't forget that separate collection is only the first step in the green daily.

Interesting facts from EKO Ecobulpack

Paper

To produce each week's daily newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut down. If all our newspapers were recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year! The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to heat 50,000,000 homes for 20 years. So, lets use better internet and save files instead of printing them. When you smell a dump, what you're actually sensing is the paper in the dump. Each ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 4000 kilowatts of energy and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

Glass 

Every month, we throw out enough bottles and jars to fill up a giant skyscraper. All of these are recyclable. The energy saved from recycling a single glass bottle runs a 100-watt light bulb for four hours.
A modern bottle of Coca Cola would take 4000 years or more to decompose. Glass is 100% recyclable and can be used again and again.

Plastic

Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1,000,000 sea creatures every year. Do you feel like a massmurderer now? Recycling plastic saves twice as much energy as burning it in an incinerator. Its use in Europe is growing about 4% per year.

Metal

Recycling one aluminum saves enough energy to run a TV for 3 hours - or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline. 350,000 aluminum cans are produced every minute. During the time it takes you to read this sentence, 50,000 12-ounce aluminum cans are made. An aluminum can that is thrown away will still be a can 500 years from now. We use over 80,000,000,000 aluminum pop cans yearly. Cans can be recycled and ready to use in just 6 weeks.

Mixed
Every week about 20 species of plants and animals become extinct. 1/3 of the water used in most homes goes down the toilet. Up to 80% of a vehicle can be recycled. A normal family consumes 29 gallons of juice, 104 gallons of milk, and 26 gallons of bottled water a year. Count?
