Climate Change Sells

Global warming turns a dream holiday into a nightmare
Andrei and Andreea Barac, two young people from Cugir that were in their honeymoon on the coast of Greenland, felt the direct effects of global warming. One day while fishing, the ice bank they were standing cracked out of the blue, it set off and began to float randomly along the ocean's waves, further and further from the shore. This is when the couple woke up from the surprise and realized they're living quite a nightmare.
"The ice bank had around 200 square metres and we were sharing it with a polar bear and a couple of reindeers." Andrei said. The ice bank floated for 11 days and aggressively melted until it reached the size of "an average living room in an apartment building" as described by Andreea Barac. Eventually, the ice bank - along with its (in)volunteers moored in Cannes, France. Here, in one of the most expensive Mediterranean resorts, the couple had to face another problem: they had no money. They managed to call their relatives and get help quickly. "We called our folks and they sent us money, according to their possibilities", the young couple declared.

This is the story written on the back of the leaflet pictured above and it advertises the cheaper fees one pays when sending money abroad using Western Union.
I was at the bank today and had to wait a couple of minutes while doing a transaction. It was during these minutes that I noticed the leaflet with the bizarre image on its front. Who has ever seen people wearing winter outerwear and gloves while posing under a palm tree in what seems to be a nice beach day in an exotic island? When I turned the leaflet I discovered the story.
Now, Western Union is a service used quite often here, especially by Romanians who work abroad and send money to their families in the country. The service has a large market share and I think they have done a thorough market research before doing this campaign. Which makes me believe that:
a) climate change is not such an unknown concept (at least not quite as I suspected) here (otherwise they wouldn't have picked this certain story in the first place)
b) climate change becomes as much a trend as a reliable marketing approach even in countries where one wouldn't expect
c) climate change sells (otherwise a global warming related pitch wouldn't have ever been proposed by any advertising agency)
There probably are further conclusions that can be drawn, but I am still puzzled for the day.
What do you think?

It feel that warm clothes and palms attract attention to figure out why that picture is there.
Some how I think that this marketing way sells, makes u disbelieve but still remember ..
I’ve asked some people here that use Western Union frequently if they know about the leaflet. And they said no.
So I guess it’s used for gaining new clients.
I don’t know.
It’s interesting in a way, because if you look at the whole campaign from a different perspective, new questions may be triggered to people who don’t know about global warming (and there are plenty of these, too) but read the leaflet.
I think you are correct, and that you have a very sharp eye for PR
That climate change sells is good in a way, but I am also worried… at one point it will be replaced with something else. That is just the way things work… then it will not sell, but nature will continue to heat up.
